Summer Refreshment from Verona

2020 Monte Zovo Soave

The Veneto’s most famous still white wine, fine Soave should be dry, fresh and approachable with a layer of food-friendly acidity. As it ages, a richer texture and savoury, nutty notes become more pronounced.

The fruit for the Monte Zovo Soave comes from the lush, volcanic soils in the hills to the east of Verona. Garganega must make up at least 70% of the wine, according to appellation standards. The 2020 Monte Zovo Soave consists of 70% Garganega and 30% Trebbiano di Soave (also known as Verdicchio). These two varietals are associated with the most traditional expression of Soave, although Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc are technically also allowed here.

In the glass, the colour is straw-yellow, with greenish reflections. Abundant aromas of apricot, peach and orange blossom lead to a bright palate with a layer of fine minerality and delightful hints of honeysuckle and jasmine on the finish. A rare white wine capable of medium-term cellaring, the Monte Zovo Soave makes a brilliant aperitif or accompaniment to salads, pesto, light fish and pasta dishes. A sophisticated drop to have on hand for impromptu summer get-togethers.
